Bankside Miniature Railway 8¼ inch

The Bankside Miniature Railway first opened in 1977 when the owner installed this railway after running at Beaulieu Gardens for a few years in the sixties. The railway is unusual as being on elevated track and is the only 8 ¼ inch gauge railway in the country. Trains are pulled by ‘Carolyn’ which was built in 1924. Trains run from Brambridge Station and run round a balloon loop, returning to the station. Then the whole train is revolved on a 35ft Turntable ready for its next journey. The line was extended from End to End to its present situation in 1999.
