Beer Heights Light Railway 7 ¼ inch

The Beer Heights Light Railway was opened in 1975 by Reverend W Awdry, creator of ‘Thomas The Tank Engine’ built to complement the permanent model railway exhibition. It ran from Much Natter Station to the engine sheds. Over the year the line was extended and now gives a mile run from Much Natter Station round a complicated loop and back. On your journey, there are spectacular views of Lyme Bay together with the countryside and gardens of Pecorama and also railway features such as a long tunnel under the local road and car park, two signal boxes, two level crossings and several bridges. The journey takes around 14 minutes. When originally opened the railway was operated by a battery electric locomotive and a saddle tank, but these were disposed of soon after. The line is now run by eight steam locomotives, one diesel locomotive and a battery operated tram which runs at peak times a shuttle service down the Mine Branch.
