Lappa Valley Steam Railway 15 inch, 10¼ inch, 7¼ inch
The Lappa Valley Steam Railway was founded on the trackbed of an old standard gauge railway by Eric Booth in 1974,and is now owned and operated by the Booth family. There are 3 different railways along with various other attractions. A 15” gauge steam railway runs from the car park at Benny Halt to East Wheal Rose, where there is a historic mine house, boating lake and other attractions. From East Wheal Rose, you can ride further along the standard gauge trackbed on the 10¼” gauge Newlyn Branch Line to Newlyn Halt, where there is children’s play equipment. Also at East Wheal Rose is the 7¼” gauge Woodland Railway, running in a circuit around a maze. The 15” gauge railway uses some equipment previously at Longleat House and obtained from the failed Axe and Lyme Valley Railways project. The 10¼” gauge railway previously ran at Carlyon Bay,St Austell, and was rebuilt at Lappa Valley in time for the 1995 season. The 7¼” gauge line was initially worked by a Royal Scot but is now worked by a Mardyke sit-in Advanced Passenger Train.
