Lightwater Valley Miniature Railway 15 inch

The Lightwater Valley Miniature Railway first opened in 1979 and is situated in the Lightwater Valley Theme Park near Ripon. The line is circular and runs for approximately ¾ mile. Trains run in a clockwise direction from the main station ‘Lightwater’ which has an attractive four road ‘Victorian’ style engine shed and stock siding. On the journey, the train makes brief stops at stations ‘Fort William’ and ‘Whistle Stop’ and passes over one bridge and through a tunnel. Various interesting and historic engines have operated here in the past. These include ‘Blacolvesley’, the only 15inch gauge Royal Scot (built by Carland), Barnes Atlantic ‘John’, 'Yvette' and Basset Lowke ‘Little Giant’. These have all since moved on and now trains are operated by a Rio Grande steam outline built by Severn Lamb, which previously ran at Flamingoland in North Yorkshire.
