Sherwood Forest Railway 15 inch

The Sherwood Forest Railway first opened in 2000. The building of the line commenced in the winter of 1999/2000 after the Colley family had purchased two steam locomotives 'Pet' and 'Smokey Joe' from Keith Hardy (the builder of both). The line originally ran in to a nearby sheep field which was situated on the right of the station. However the following year, the line was slightly altered and now ran down a slight gradient, past pig paddocks to a temporary halt. Since the line has been gradually extended and now runs from Loxley Station to Welldale Station, a distance of approximately 800 yards. There are plans to extend the railway further round the site (formerly a farm park)in the future. Trains are usually steam hauled, by 'Pet' and 'Smokey Joe', however the IC locomotives are occasionally used.
