Beale Railway 10 ¼ inch
The railway first opened in 1979, but was 7 ¼ inch gauge. The 10 ¼ inch gauge railway opened in 1994 and is a lovely line to visit running round this Bird Park. Trains depart from Howard’s Halt and run round the west loop anticlockwise, but then run round the east loop clockwise. There are two engines, John-Remy which is a steam engine completed in 1991 by the Exmoor Steam Railway and regauged from 12 ¼ inch gauge to 10 ¼ inch gauge in 2000 and the much older, diesel engine 'Sir Humphrey Davy' which came from the Rydon Park Railway which closed in 1989. There is an attractive station and ticket office on site.
