Beer Heights Light Railway 7 ¼ inch
The Beer Heights Light Railway was opened in 1975 by Reverend W Awdry, creator of ‘Thomas The Tank Engine’ built to complement the permanent model railway exhibition. It ran from Much Natter Station to the engine sheds. Over the year the line was extended and now gives a mile run from Much Natter Station round a complicated loop and back. On your journey, there are views of the countryside and gardens of Pecorama and also exciting railway features like a tunnel, two signal boxes, two level crossings and a bridge. The journey takes around approx 14 minutes. The railway used to be operated by a battery electric and a saddle tank when the line first opened, but these were disposed of soon after. The line is now run by seven steam locomotives, one diesel locomotive and a battery operated tram which runs at peak times a shuttle service down the mine branch.
