Firefly on Tour
Firefly, the historic 10.25 inch gauge 0-6-0 steam locomotive, built by Herbert Bullock in 1936 is to embark on an exciting three railway tour in the South of England.
Now based at the Kerr's Miniature Railway in Arbroath, Scotland, Firefly ran for many years at the Hastings Miniature Railway and has not been back since 1984 when purchased by Matthew Kerr Jnr, so for the first time in nearly 30 years, and to celebrate the lines 65th anniversary, it is to return to its old running line.
In addition, Firefly will be running for one day only at the private Birchley Railway in Kent, before ending its tour at the extensive Eastleigh Lakeside Steam Railway, where it will be reunited with other Herbert Bullock built locomotives to celebrate the Surrey, Border & Camberley Railway.
The itinerary for Firefly’s Tour is as follows:
1st June – Birchley Railway – In operation all day
4th– 6th June – Hastings Miniature Railway – In operation for three days including an intensive operating timetable on 5th June, Hasting's anniversary day.
8th – 9th June – Eastleigh Lakside Steam Railway for the Surrey, Border and Camberley Railway Gala
It promises to be an exciting opportunity to see Firefly after its overhaul last year on old territories.
