Shibden Miniature Railway 10 ¼ inch

The Shibden Miniature Railway first opened in 1983 and was run by Brian Taylor who also built and ran the Kirklees Light Railway in Huddersfield. Set in the park that contains Shibden Hall, trains run in the lower part of the park, passing a picnic area and boating lake. A circular line, trains run from the station, straight away passing through a tunnel which also houses the engines and stock when the trains aren’t running. The line then runs over 2 bridges and through a cutting on its route round the 700 yard line. Trains are pulled by either ‘Ivor’ a 0-6-0 saddle tank locomotive, ‘Ivan’ a diesel electric locomotive. Ivan was rebuilt from a 12 inch gauge loco which originally operated at the Ruislip Lido Railway.
