Strand Miniature Railway 7 ¼ inch
The Strand Miniature Railway opened in 1948 and was originally a 9inch gauge line which ran from the First Aid hut alongside the putting green and tennis courts. The line was regauged the following year when a steam engine was on demand. The line suffered from vandalism for a few years and the steam locomotive was wearing out and the choice was made to buy another steam locomotive. The line eventually sold the steam locomotives because the steamers were not operational at the time. In 1974 the line was extended to a 400yd circuit which is its present layout today. Trains depart from Riverside Station which has a passing loop, though at present this is out of use. Trains on the journey run through the tunnel/shed which used to be an old Anderson shelter. The present locomotive was delivered in the 1980s and was refurbished in 2006.
